How to calculate PTO payout
Estimate the gross value of unused PTO by multiplying unused PTO hours by an hourly pay rate. If your policy pays only a percentage of accrued value, enter that payout percentage.
Example: 40 hours at $25/hour
Forty unused PTO hours at $25/hour has an estimated gross value of $1,000 before taxes, deductions, or payroll adjustments. At 8 hours per day, 40 PTO hours equals 5 PTO days.
PTO payout for salaried employees
Salary mode estimates an hourly equivalent by dividing annual salary by annual working hours.
This is an arithmetic estimate only. Do not assume every employer uses this exact conversion.
PTO hours to days
PTO days are calculated as unused PTO hours divided by hours per workday. For example, 40 hours at 8 hours per day equals 5 days.
Gross value vs take-home amount

Is unused PTO always paid out?
Not necessarily. Whether unused PTO is payable can depend on employer policy, employment contract, and applicable law. This calculator only performs arithmetic using the values entered and does not determine whether a payout is legally required.
